Activate Your TMPTEL eSIM on iPhone

Install your travel eSIM in under 60 seconds. Works on iPhone XS and newer with iOS 16+. Two methods: QR code (recommended) or manual LPA entry.

Before you start

Activate the eSIM before you fly, while still on your home Wi-Fi. The QR scan requires an internet connection. Once installed, the eSIM works as soon as you land.

Method 1 — QR Code (Recommended)

  1. 1

    Open Settings → Cellular

Open the Settings app on your iPhone → tap Cellular (or "Mobile Data" in some regions) → tap Add eSIM.

  2. 2

    Choose "Use QR Code"

On the next screen, tap "Use QR Code". Display your TMPTEL QR code on another device (computer screen or printed) and scan it with your iPhone camera.

  3. 3

    Label your plans

Once installed, name the new eSIM (e.g. "TMPTEL USA"). Choose your home SIM as Default Voice Line and the new eSIM as Default Cellular Data.

  4. 4

    Enable Data Roaming

Tap the new eSIM in your cellular settings → toggle Data Roaming ON. Your eSIM is ready — data will flow automatically when you arrive at your destination.

Method 2 — Manual LPA (no camera needed)

If you cannot scan the QR code (one-device setup), use the LPA string instead.

  1. Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually.
  2. Paste the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code from your TMPTEL dashboard.
  3. Tap Next → Add Cellular Plan.
  4. Follow steps 3 and 4 from the QR method above.

Tips for a smooth experience

  • iPhone supports up to 8 stored eSIMs simultaneously — keep old ones, just toggle them off.
  • Your home SIM keeps receiving calls and SMS. Only mobile data switches to the eSIM.
  • In Airplane Mode → manually re-enable cellular for the eSIM after landing.
  • If data does not flow, toggle the eSIM Off then On in Settings.

Carrier-locked iPhones

If your iPhone was bought on a carrier contract (US: AT&T, Verizon — UK: EE, O2 — etc.), it may be locked to that operator. eSIM activation will fail until you request an unlock from your carrier.

FAQ

Which iPhones support eSIM?

iPhone XS, XR and all newer models (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) running iOS 12.1+. iPhone 14 and later in the US are eSIM-only.

Can I use my home SIM at the same time?

Yes — iPhone supports Dual SIM (1 physical + 1 active eSIM). Calls and SMS on home SIM, data on eSIM.

What if I delete the eSIM by mistake?

Contact TMPTEL support — we can re-issue the QR code once. After that the eSIM profile is consumed.

Does the eSIM work on Apple Watch?

No — Watch eSIM is a separate cellular plan from your operator.
